I was struggling with a late-in-life realization that I’m bisexual. Coming out let me finally tell my story authentically. But this painful process made me feel lost, ashamed, and unsure of where to turn.

The first thing I did was look for bi+ community and support in Canada. I found nothing. Apart from one local meet up group in a city across the province from me, I found no dedicated, visible support for bi+ people in Canada. Even within broader LGBTQ+ organizations, I discovered that bi+ resources and community were either missing or sidelined.

I felt isolated and unsupported. Not finding anything locally—or even within Canada—that reflected my experience was confusing and distressing. It felt as though I was invisible and overlooked. My mental and physical health suffered and I went on disability support.

I feel strongly that bi+ Canadians need the steady, constant visibility of an organization like Bi+ Canada. With Bi+ Canada, I hope one day that people like me—who desperately needed a confident anchor—can find it right away.“

– Kayla, Ottawa, Canada

Support us Your support can create a better future for bi+ people across Canada.
